Mentoring Children of Promise

Mission Statement

The mission of Goodwill’s Mentoring Children of Incarcerated Parents project is to change the lives of children who have a parent in prison by recruiting caring, concerned adults willing to befriend and nurture them in a mentoring relationship.

Recruitment Focus

Mentors at least 18 years of age from all walks of life. We also seek to partner with churches to recruit, encourage, and support mentors from their congregations.

Type of Mentoring (e.g. school, community, group, etc)

We primarily focus on community-based mentoring; however, we may set up site-based mentoring in some cases to meet the needs of the mentor and mentee.

Target Population

We serve children between the ages of 4-18 who have at least one parent in a state or federal prison, or a parent currently in a local correctional facility who has formerly been in a state or federal prison.

Project Partners

Educational Service District 101, Department of Corrections, Boys and Girls Club.

Start and End Date

Mentor and mentee agree to a one-year commitment.

What are Your Greatest Needs

We need mentors. We especially encourage men to apply. We need men and women able and willing to commit 1-2 hours per week for a year to be a friend to a child. We also need short-term volunteers to help with group activities for the children on our waiting list.
